Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Jharkhand Police on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly waving a Palestinian flag during a Muharram procession in Dumka district. Another person was also detained in connection with the incident. The arrests came after videos of youths waving Palestinian flags during the procession at Dudhani Chowk went viral on social media on Wednesday. In one video, a youth was seen waving the flag atop a vehicle and raising slogans. Dumka Town police station Officer in Charge, Amit Kumar Lakra, confirmed the arrest and detention, stating that interrogation is ongoing.
The police launched an investigation into the incident, with Dumka Sub Divisional Police Officer Vijay Kumar Mahto indicating that action would be taken if the video clips were found genuine. BJP state president Babulal Marandi shared one of the videos on X, calling for strict action against those with a “Talibani mentality” and criticizing the Hemant Soren government for its alleged "Muslim appeasement" policy. The situation remains under investigation as authorities work to maintain order.
